I can't describe how awesome this ride is. Way better than The Dragon or the Cherohala Skyway even! Fantastic roads, great curves, beautiful scenery & not a lot of traffic! Do yourself a favor and hit the Moonshiner 28, as this ride is known, and have a blast!

I took 28 north from where it intersects with 107 in south carolina. 28 north was a great ride with good quality road and not too many other cars. I strongly suggest this ride for good curves.
For a longer adventure, consider this...take 28 north until it intersects with 64. Head east on 64, turn north on 281, turn east (right) on Tanassee Gap Rd (be careful because the street sign is missing. It's right after a small bridge on the right if you're heading north. If you drive by a parking area near the water with some large graphic infomational displays about the local area, turn around because you just missed it. If you're driving south, it's after the parking area and before the bridge). At one point you have to take an unexpected right turn to stay on Tanassee Gap Rd so keep your eye out for it. Then take 215 north (which intersects with the Bue Ridge Parkway) and if you want to keep riding turn onto 276 south. 276 intersects also with the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Took Hwy 28 from the from Bryson City NC through the tip of Ga to Clemson SC. It's an incredible road with lots of tight turns and great scenery. Watch your gas as there are not a lot of stations for long stretchs. Probably the best road I've ridden to date.

I recently did this ride and it was outstanding. Way better than I thought it was going to be. Just watch those decreasing radius blind turns. I recommend that you ride at 6/10's your ability or less the first couple times you're on this road. I was riding at an aggressive but safe pace (so I thought) only to find that numerous times I had to lean it so far over that the footpegs were scraping to make the turn (sportbike). Had I been going any faster I would not have made the turn without going left of center and risking a head-on collision.

Any riding off the Interstate system through the Smokies is beautiful. The one thing I would do different is ship my golf clubs to Highlands as there are some of the most beautiful golf courses in those hills around Highlands and Cashiers. Would be the ultimate bike trip to stop for a few days and golf, jump back on the bike and head to south, Augusta, Savannah???

Nice ride and also has a few stops to view the river. Had the wife on the back so it was not a hard ride for her either.

As the others have said. Rode it this week and it was amazing. Tonnes of triple curves, tree lined, little traffic.

Rode this one south down to 107, then took 107 north, so not quite as mapped, but this is a road where the further north you are the more twisty and fun the road is. The Georgia part can be quite tight in some areas for a main road, but that didn't detract from the fun, just sprinkled a touch of danger on it.
Solid road, no real complaints. Absolutely look it up, if you're in the area.

Great ride, lots of twists, turns a switchbacks. Did it on a Friday, very little traffic. There is a small town at the end, stretch your legs and get a bite to eat.

This road is in the north west area not south east. This is a fun road
but not an all day event. Check out the Devils Triangle in Tenn. Look
it up on the web.

1) There are a few gas stations & convenience stores available between Walhalla and the Highway 107 split. To make this ride a more varied round trip, after reaching Highlands, NC, continue on Hwy 64 to Cashiers, NC. Then turn right and return to Walhalla on Hwy 107. On 107, you will pass the Walhalla Fish Hatchery (you can visit if you are interested) and Cherry Hill Recreation Area and Oconee State Park.

Beautiful scenery, waterfalls, lots of sharp curves and not much traffic. I used it on a trip from Myrtle Beach to Bryson City. Loved every minute of it.

Really nice ride from where I started in Georgia towards South Carolina. I am not much of a twisty person but once you get into the area leading towards Highlands, NC, there will be plenty for the curve and twisty lovers. One point is missing because I am not into many twists. Glad I took the ride today.

Rode from Asheville to Highlands on 64 W from Brevard on 8/16/20 based on this recommended ride. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride down the mountain through that corner of Georgia and down to Walhalla. Rode back up the mountain via Hwys 183 and 11in SC and then north on 130 SC/281 NC to return to Hwy 64 near Sapphire, NC. Gorgeous rural and mountain state park scenery, smoothly rolling sweepers and minimal traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended!

I am going to give this a 3 for this moment due to the fact that we were caught in a awful thunderstorm. Just be aware that there is no shelter once committed and that the road does hold water.

Also known as the moonshiner route. Had a near miss with a deer who was in a hurry to cross the road. It seemed like he jumped and then saw me and accelerated somehow while airborne. Whew... Great ride and short cut up to the mountains

Long sweeping turns and some fast, flat segments in the valley turn into tight twisties and limited sight-lines in the mountains. Be alert for several decreasing radius turns near Walhalla. Gorgeous leaf scenery in the fall, and some friendly spots to stop along the way.

Route that is full of natural beauty and a lot of twistys. Much of it runs along a river. Be ready for some technical and blind curves. Awesome time though!

The locals like to take the "Carolina Loop", Hwy 28 to 107 to Cashiers, stop eat lunch, maybe visit dry falls , then head to Highlands. Stop a while and look around, grab an ice cream and head back down 28 to Walhalla. Do not forget to stop at the Last Chance on the way home!
