Driving west on Rt30 is a nice ride also. I've taken it as far west as Greensburg. The Flight 93 memorial is on this road near the intersection with Rt160, which is also a very nice ride.

I have riden most of this road many times. York, Gettysburg, Lancaster is a great part of the state. Be sure to stop for the night at the Alt Land House in Abbottstown. It is an old stagecoach Inn. Also a great German Bar just down the road.

I have ridden this from Pittsburgh to Gettysburg for the last two years in a row to attend Gettysburg Bike Week (which I also recommend attending). This road is spectacular. I also agree with everyone else; give yourself extra time to stop off at all the "Americana" places along the way... and this year I'm definitely stopping at the Flight 93 Memorial.

I have made this ride several times traveling from my home in Indiana to Gettysburg, PA. This is, without a doubt, my favorite part of the ride. You get elevation, twists and turns, and awesome scenery. I can't wait to make this trip again.

I started in Breezewood but I changed the course slightly, when I got to Chambersburg I took route 11 to Greencastle and went from Greencastle towards Mercersberg and onto McConnelsburg and then back to Breezewood. I think that made the trip much better.

I started this ride in York, Pa. I absolutely loved this route! I just started riding this season and I'm still learning and working on my skills. Going up and down the mountains with the twists and curves, with barely any traffic was what I needed to gain more confidence in myself and my bike. The scenic views are very majestic and soothing. Recommend this for all riders.

I rode frim D.C. And did a loop through Breezewood, PA across Hwy 30 to Chambersburg. Left home at 1100 on sunday July 3rd. Got back home about 1730. Ate lunch at the Mountain House Bar & Grill. The "Mountain Burger" w/fries, 2 drafts, and a sweet tea came to a whopping 13.40$. Great trip, good food.

I ride Rt 30 from Gettysburg to Ligonier every year to go to the Highland Festival in Sept. It's a ride thru history, from the Indian Wars to the present. Gorgeous views here and there, one of my all time favorite local rides.

My ride had me on 30 all the way from NJ to 75n. I was ahead of schedule with time to kill and remembered seeing this bit of 30 on here. Glad I decided to continue on and check it out. This section from 75 to Breezewood was by far the nicesest section of 30 I had ridden. There is also a very nice overlook just east of Breezewood almost at top of mountain. Small sign marking it and it's back aways on gravel road. You can ride right up to the edge.

I have ridden this road between Latrobe and as far as Gettysburg..but also just to Bedford and back many times. I never tire of it. The section between Laughlinton and Jennerstown was getting a little rough but has recently been re-paved. The scenery is inspiring, the road is exhilirating and the road surface is near perfect.

One of the nicest rides you will make in Pa. Rode from Latrrobe to York for Harley Open House. Enjoyed it even in the rain.

Was in Gettysburg for a Heritage Springer rally. Took 30 west from there to Pittsburgh on the way home to Ontario Canada . The rally was great but that rt. 30 is awsome. Twisting and turning up one side and the same down the other side. We were loaded down and it was still GREAT!!! Be sure to stop and see the flight 93 memorial. You'll leave with a heavy heart. It's just off the highway near Somerset. *****

Although we live near by, we never grow bored of this ride. This trip offers sweeping turns, grand views and history along the way.
If you can schedule your ride in mid week you,ll find very little traffic between burgs.
Our suggestions : an early start with a hot breakfast and fuel in Breezewood sets the tone for a great day.

We rode this with our touring group last year on our way to Gettysburg. We stopped at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pa. A must see.
From there the road just twists and turns, each view better then then the last with the view from the Mountain House the best of all.

I live 5 miles off of Hwy 30 about 30 minutes west of Bedford. I just bought my motorcycle so I haven't had a chance to ride to Gettysburg yet but have driven the road coming back from when the family and I went on the Gettysburg tour. There is a lot of nice views on that road and a nice little tavern at the top of one of the mountains that has a great view and good food!

This road is at its absolute best between PA75 and Breezewood. This stretch is a fun ride with some great sweepers and significant elevation changes. East of PA 75 this route has very little to offer.
Stop at the Mountain House Bar & Grill at the very top of the Tusacarora mountain (4 mi West of PA75) . The parking lot offers a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below. The grub is pretty good too. If you are lucky - you will see hangliders launching off the mountain too.

Cruiser dude road up in here. The twisties are sparse, it's all about the laid back cruise while feasting your eyes on the scenery. A more in depth review would be given if there was more to getting on 30 and heading east or west.
Keep an eye open for texting soccer moms in minivans, please. 30 can be a killer around towns.

I rate this ride overall about 3 . I recommend starting the ride in Breezewood, just off the PA Turnpike take Rt 30East (Lincoln Highway)and concluding the ride at the intersection of Rt 75, which makes the ride about 26 miles. Once you pass Rt 75 it's a straight run along the Lincoln Highway into Chambersburg and there's a lot of traffic and not much to see. However West of Rt 75 there's some nice curves, only one hairpin at the summit and some sweepers up and down the mountain. There aren't any scenic lookouts to stop and take pictures. Overall a nice ride but not sure it should make the Top 100?

Started out at rte 219 and took it all the way to Gettysburg. Absolutely beautiful road. Nice twisties and altitude changes. Wonderful scenery. Check out the Flight 93 Memorial if you get out there. Will definitely be doing it again !

live close to rt 30, so i have been on it many times. you have to go west of breezwood to ligonier. small towns and a lot of mountains to go up and down with some great views. i think its the best part of the ride. the flight 93 memorial site is about 20 miles east of ligonier, a must stop. once you get to chambersburg the road gets crowded. a great stop to eat is jean bonnet tavern, just west of bedford, at the intersection of rts 30, and 31. the tavern dates back to the 1700s

We rode 30 West from Chambersburg to Pittsburgh this spring. Along the way are great veiws and road side atractions to stop in and experience. Be sure to stop at some of the overlooks and the tourist traps, it is worth every penny. also plan time in to stop at the Flight 911 memorial.

This is a beautiful ride through the PA countryside. The history of the Lincoln Highway is worth a Google.
Take this ride in the autumn when the trees are their displaying their brilliant colors and you'll be captivated on what will greet you over the next hill or around the next corner. Just watch for deer because the rut will happening around that time too.
The only negative is how traffic can back up on this road sometimes. Leaving Breezewood, there are signs warning semi-trucks to take the Turnpike and stay off Hwy 30. However, many don't heed the warning and end up crawling through hills and twisties. Unfortunately, there aren't always passing zones so you can end up waiting a bit before a passing opportunity.

The spread of ratings on this road, not to mention it, laughably, being #1 in PA serves to show the vast spread of interests in motorcycle riding. For the Tourers, this is an amazing run full of nice sweeping vistas, especially west of 75, with some 'Don't fall asleep back there, wife.' sweepers out by Breezewood. Regular cruiser riders/lighter weight tourers would probably feel much the same, but there's a bit much in the way of traffic for some, and feels very 'slabby' by the time you get to 75, if headed east.
This route has 0 for sport bike riders unless you need to be on those roads for something. There's better roads around Breezewood, and the twisties burn off too quickly, leaving you sucking in wind while going straight.
(I'm in the latter camp.)
