Map incorrectly shows route taking highway instead of the very nice 233. This is a good loop but dont be afraid to venture off 75 or 30 for good backroads. For example heading south on 75 turn right at sign for cowans gap and a left at the end. This will put you at mountain top baradding nice twisties and eliminate backtracking.

I am from Pa. and love the state, more freedom than where I live now in Md. It is nice to be able to take off the "plastic hat" on a hot summer day and ride the back roads of Pa. This ride through Caledonia and on Rt. 30 up to Mountain Top is a very pleasurable ride, My wife and I do it offten, My favorite ride how ever was when I took Rt.15 N, Rt.6 W. to the Allegheny National Forrest Rt. 19 S to Pittsburgh to visit my mother and come back on Rt. 30 or Rt. 31. Try it , you will like it

this rout is a great ride. i live right off of 30 near fayetteville and love to ride the state parks. only thing i would say to change is to ride the ridge down to cowans gap lake. its a blast of a road and beautiful forests.

My son and I rode the Bonneville and Tiger, leaving Frederick MD at 9am, shot over to Smithsburg and up to Waynesboro where we took 997 up to Mon Alto to join the route at 233. Highlights included 944, linking 233 to 74 with beautiful curves and countryside, and a country diner near New Germantown on 274 where we sipped mugs of Maxwellhouse and chatted with the local color. Great ride. Fun day.

One of my favorite rides. I do this route at least once a month, always stopping in Chambersburg at the shop of my favorite tobacconist and pipe maker, J.M. Boswell and Son, 586 Lincoln Way E (SR 30). J.M. is a world famous tobacco pipe crafter and pipe tobacco blender. www.boswellpipes.com

Hammered out this route this weekend and it was an absolute joy. Weather was perfect as were the roads. My only complaint is the stop-and-go with the lights through Chambersburg. Will definitely be hitting this one a couple times this season.

I ride PA-74 and PA-233 often as I'm local to this area. Definitely my two favorite roads that I've found so far. I haven't hit PA-274 or the western part of PA-30 yet so I'm looking forward to ripping through those this season. Only complaint about PA-74 is that there is some gravel around the corners as you're going over the mountain.

my husband(honda vtx 1300) and i(honda 750 areo) rode from ohio. we stayed in chambersburg and did the loop. we went to the mountian top bar the food was good, the owner cool, the view wonderful. Caution if you go through cowans gap- there are BEARS!!! one darted in front of us on the ride, its beautiful there but do the 30 mph speed, the curves make you want to go faster but don't. would reccommend trip.
