My wife and I took this beautiful ride and it was great. We stayed the night in Coudersport and came back on 872 then over to 555 to Benezette. We love to see all the elk on Winslow Hill. Just go slow for elk crossing! You will not be dissappointed.

This is a great road with everything to offer the motorcycle riding enthusiast EXCEPT gas or food ! Better make sure you can do without a fill-up of either for a couple of hours before you enter ! I will definitely ride this one again
PS - Jack Hoff must have missed a turn ! :)

I rode on this road the fall based on the write-up and was NOT disappointed - what great find! Thanks for the accurate description - it did not dissappoint at all. The only thing I would add for others is to be carefull of the lose gravel in some of the tighter corners....and make sure you get gas BEFORE you get on PA 44 !

I took this road last Summer (2008) on my Maxi-Scoot and I thought it was the most beautiful ride I have ever taken. I picked up Rt 44 at Allenwood, PA. I crossed over to Austin on Rt 872, which I picked up just before Coudersport. And came back to Rt 80 by way of Rts 120 and 220s. Awesome scenery and just about total isolation on 872. Was glad to get gas at Austin, since I was running on fumes when I arrived there. Perhaps next time I will see some PA elk.

The wife and I went down route 44 from Coudersport, PA on October 13. This was a really great ride with plenty of elevation changes, turns and great views. There were several sections of the road that had new pavement. I would recommend stopping in at the Sweden Valley in and having lunch before you go down the road as you will not find anything on the trip or pack a lunch.

The silly comment by Mr. Jack Hoff (?) is "'a waste of time"...
PA 44 is a great road - I've riden it several times and I agree with the description of the road noted above.

I live along Route 44 in Nippenose Valley. You can add about 20 miles of great riding to this by starting at the junction of US 15 and PA 44 at Allenwood. It does, however, include the town of Jersey Shore, but that would allow you to get some food and gas for the rest of the trip. I love being able to ride out of my driveway right onto this fantastic route. Highly recommended!

Made this ride many times from north to south and south to north. Just a great way to go. One of my favorite rides.

Rode Route 44 this July 4th weekend. I have a difficult time giving it a 3 star rating because there are areas of the roadway that are terrible, read the user rating from Sept.2013 and I don't know what happened since them but the sister section of 144/44 north to route 6 at sweden valley are aweful with holes, cracks, bumps, terrible patches, tar snakes etc! PA needs to get their act together up in this area, it could be a meca for motorcycling and a BOOM for the businesses in the area by drawing in the motorcycle riders looking to get away! Don't get me wrong, there are some great roads between Coudersport and Mansfield but they could do better!

Took this road in June, 2014. The scenery is beautiful, but there are some blind turns that made me happy I had the GPS to see ahead and avoid over speeding into the corners. With a sport bike it would be fun and exciting, but with my beast it meant slowing down.

Be careful on the last few miles coming into Coudersport. The cops want to balance the budget. Got a ticket for 50 in a 45 zone.

Took this trip starting at Allenwood off Rte. 15 in 2009 on a Honda Shadow. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and highly recommend it. Agree with the comments about gas and food although there are some spots, they are few and far between. Jack Hoff, what planet are you on? I went on up to Warren Co. and returned via Routes 6 and 287 then got back on 44 at Jersey Shore. Great trip and looking at doing it again this summer on the GW.

As noted by one other person on here. PA 144 is amazing also. You could easily do a figure 8 using these two road and Rt 6 on the northern portion and Rt 150 / Alt 220 on the south eastern portion to connect 44 and 144 for an amazing bunch of riding.

Excellent road I have ridden it many times from Pleasant Gap, one of the best rides in Pa, but if you go off onto 414 up north expect a bumpy ride at least the last time I rode it, but the view on both roads is great. On 414 heading towards Wellsboro. 414 is like Dukes of Hazard towns and 44 is like going to camp but it all is on a paved road, real nice. (Jack Hoff) knows nothing about riding if he doesn't like this rd.

One of a few gems of north central Pennsylvania. While you're in the area try 144, as well. There are similar roads and they both have twisties, sweepers, up or down mountains, pretty much no amenities, and barring traffic and questionable road surface you should have quite a good time. If I had to pick between the two I would pick 144, but 44 is still a strong road.

i have been on this road and is a fun ride. but, if you dont ride 144 from snow shoe to galeton you are missing an even better ride. no gas or eatery until you get to the germania hotel. nothing fancy, but a place to stop and quinch your thirst. very little traffic just a lot of cabins.

PA 44 and its sister road PA 144 are both amazing roads that offer top notch scenery as well as fantastic road quality....sweepers and switchbacks.....the only thing you may miss are intersectons....and stop signs.

have a cabin off of rt 6 just east of galeton. always take the bike with me. all of the roads are in decent shape. have been on all the roads in the area. not a lot of traffic, just a great ride. rt 6 is the main east , west road and is in super shape. take any road and you will have a great time.
