About 5 miles north of Calcutta on rt 170 is a small dot on the map. called fredrickstown at if you turn East onto fredrickstown road. about 100 yards down the twp. road you will cross an old iron bridge. great place to get a few nice pics. about another 300 yaards up the road is a really nice lookout. Great view especially in the fall. It is hard to get turned around right there by the overlook. Your best bet is to go up the road a bit and turn around. but well worth the 1/2 mile detour off of route 170

I usually start this ride in Poland. As has already been mentioned, Poland is a speed trap. New Middletown isn't much better. Nice gentle sweeps with some great scenery on the northern half until about East Palestine. From East Palestine on down to Calcutta it gets a bit more technical. Pay attention to signs - there are a few curves south of Negley that will put your heart in your throat if you're not careful.

The best part of the road is on the Calcutta side. It starts at Bruster's Ice Cream. The pavement is good, the road's curves are awesome.

I just rode this section this past weekend, all the curves are just north of Calcutta and thats it... Only one scenic look out which is pictured above ... the road was nice and very light on traffic

Very Good road! Best I have seen in eastern OH.
I took a trip from Erie, PA to Wheeling , WV last weekend and specificly road over to OH to check this one out. Good pavement and NICE TURNS (especialy for my CBR) ! I thought I was in heaven... untill I reached West Virginia, then I realized it was just purgatory. I will now be taking this road when I go south through OH ! Thanks!

Good roads and thing to see along that ride. Fredricktown has alot of intresting sites. But you need a pass to get in to see most of it. If your not from this area...not far fron this route is Beaver Creek state park. Look it up and ride in from the south not the north side. The last I was on that road it was pretty bad...for even a truck.

Rode 170 South from East Palestine down to Calcutta, fun ride, as I recall pavement was very good too! Was on so many roads over the weekend, they all kinda run together in my limited memory, don’t recall particulars, however I do remember making note-to-self to run this stretch again next time we’re back over that way. Sprucevale Rd from Calcutta up to Rogers is also a nice ride. Hoge’s at 16128 East Liverpool Rd (E Liverpool is just south of US-30, actually first traffic light after crossing over) is a great place to eat, very generous servings and food was really good!
