FYI - Gravel from Kathryn South and from Lake Ashtabula North... - Very nice - I rode this late this fall, not much traffic. - I'd do it again.

I might be biased because I grew up just outside of Kathryn and drove the highway to Valley City most days in high school but I think still think this is an excellent motorcycle road especially for eastern ND. Its got a great blend of straits and curves and you can from Valley City to Kathryn in around 20 minutes. Its not a busy road and isn't frequently patrolled so you probably don't need to worry about getting a ticket if if you speed a bit. If you ride at dusk, you will probably experience pockets of warm and cold air that add another dimension to to the riding experience I really like but watch out for deer and be prepared to hit bugs. Riding in the day is nice but you usually half to deal with wind as in all North Dakota.

It is a nice ride not fantastic some pretty scenery however it is short lived and the road is not in the best shape.
