Amazing road. I used it as a way to get from the interstate 25 to Silver City. I was amazed by what I enountered. I rode the Coronado Trail the next day and NM 152 is just as fun, if not more technical. Thia road is fun at the speed limit or less. Watch for any rocks on the road and look out for the cattle guards in corners or at the exit of a corner. Usually not an issue but could cause an issue if leaned over to far. Watch for cattle napping by the road as well.

I rode this on Sunday (05-11-2020) and it was a blast. I went up the mountain on the dirt road, and down the paved side. I would not recommend this route for anyone w/o a dirt capable bike, as the trip on the north end (US 165) is all dirt and very rough. Not what I would recommend on a goldwing. Great on a BMWF800GS though.

This has got to be one of the best rides in New Mexico. I took my time just to injoy it, no cars but some wild life keep your eyes open looking for deer. This is a must ride if your in Southwest New Mexico.

Great ride along the east side of the mountains. High desert to the east and mountains to the west. Road is in good condition and there are lots of places to stop for fuel for you and the bike.

AMAZING ride! Based on the reviews, I expected it to be good. It was better than that. Rode it westbound to 35 north this week, only to find that 15 south was closed due to heavy smoke from a forest fire, so I backtracked down 35 on to Silver City. Rode to the Coronado Trail from Silver City the next day, only to find it was closed due to forest fire between mile poles 189 and 225 -- "the fun bits". Turns out, Highway 152 was the most technical part of my loop. Well worth the trip.

Great route with loads of curves. Stop at the Emory Pass overlook for a super view to the east.

Also bear in mind that there are over 100 hairpin turns on this road between Silver City and Caballo, with top speeds on a cruiser at 10 - 15 mph on those curves, and you can still scrape floorboards, and not much by way of guardrails. It's an awesome ride! Just take it slow and enjoy!

Best twisty road in New Mexico. Seriously. At times the surface is great, at times not. In 2020 its great on the west side, ok on the east side. It was new paved when I first went there in 1973, when we gravity raced down to Hillsboro on ten speed bicycles. Its the ideal BMW road. Now that I'm ancient, I may enjoy other easier roads more, but when I want to get my lean on, nothing compares to the Emory Pass daytrip from Las Cruces. Take those 15 mph curves entering at 20 and exit at 35, whee! Stay in your lane though, or the half of your lane they leave you. Lots of traffic on this road this century. A few corners let you see ahead what is coming, then let er rip.
You can make a nice loop of it, and include a ride on the NM 15 through Pinos Altos to Silver City. That road is twistier, but maybe too twisty? Emory Pass is the goldilocks road for a sport bike, just right.

This is the best motorcycle road in New Mexico. This is the road where I get leaned over the farthest, wearing the tire all the way to the edge. Enter those corners at 20, leave em at 35. Other roads are either too tight, or more sweeper corners that don't get me dragging the pegs. Like Goldilocks bed, this one is just right. I've been on this road since 1973, when we gravity raced it on bicycles using both lanes on weekdays. Today there is too much traffic for that, but its still a great ride on a motorcycle with not that much traffic. Stay in your lane though, unless you can see around that corner. Sometimes cars cross the line a bit so be ready for that and ride single file. Road surface is good on the east side, new chip seal two years ago so its well packed in now. West side a bit crusty, watch for small amounts of loose gravel on the patches. That is as of August 2020. My favorite way to ride this is a long loop, Las Cruces to Deming, then up 180 to the 61. Continue up the valley to Lake Roberts for lunch. Then turn around and return to the 152 for the ride home over the pass, including the 27 and 26 to Hatch. 300 miles. The other good ride is 200 miles or so and quicker. Take I 25 to Caballo, and then up the 152. Turn around at the top, or continue on the other side and turn around at about 100 to 110 miles. Turn around on the top, an do the east side twice works too. Right now, the road surface is nice enough for twice on the east side.

Living in Truth or Consequences I have made this ride many times going to Silver City. It's one of those "go for the ride, not the destination" routes. Don't get me wrong- Silver City is great, but the ride is awesome. Just don't get in a hurry or you'll wind up in one of those deep canyons or wiping out a deer! Ride safe!

This road is second only to the Needles out of Custer in South Dakota in my book. Heck, I ride the 300 miles from Tucson to T or C just to come back through the Black Range (Hwy 152). I have been riding this for a year and never get tired of it. Do watch for the deer.

Recent improvements make this road a great ride from Hillsboro to Silver City. Be aware of the time of year, as grit from snows can remain on the road for a few weeks. Always good in the summer. Fuel is only at the end of the route, so Hatch, NM and Silver City, NM are musts for gas.

Hwy 152 is a incredbile ride and is well worth checking out. I ride a Shadow 750C2 and I love the ride. Cruisers, be prepared to grind some pegs or floorboards. I have pushed hard a few times and averaged 35mph grinding pegs on almost every corner. Fast or slow the road is beautiful in the summer. There can be sand, gravel and some snow in the spring so be cautious. Most of the road shoulders are gravel and they love to claim victims. Make sure to fill up in Hatch or Silver City depending on where you are coming from. Dont forget the camera.

Rode down from Santa Fe and cut across on 152 down to I-10 on our way to Phoenix. I gotta say, this stretch of road is one of the best kept secrets in the entire US. We never expected to see such beautiful mountainous terrain! In what had been up to that point on our ride nothing more than barren desert, we were extremely suprised with how this remote section of the state had eluded publicity. I had never seen anything as crazy as cows, YES I said COWS walking up the middle of the road like they hadn't a care in the world. Deer were popping out all over the place so keep your head up and stay at a safe pace to allow for quick braking just in case one decides to jump in your path. We stayed the night in Silver City and continued the next morning on Route 90 down to Lordsburg which was a very nice stretch of road as well. From there we hit the I-10 to Phoenix. Definitely want to make it back to ride this area again someday. 4 1/2 stars for sure...the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because no roadside amenities and the actual road surface is very coarse...not the smoothest surface by far but all the turns and scenery make it worth while.

Just did the 152 from Silver City to Caballo, unfortunately it just got a new coat and is full of loose gravel. 15mph is fast right now. Skip this awesome road till spring when hopefully all the gravel is gone.

Stayed over night in Silver City and hit the road early in the morning, riding east into the rising sun was a huge mistake. Some of the curves take you from twilight, right into blinding sunlight. Also even in July, there was still some early morning ice on the road. However, our early start did treat us to couple sighting of deer and elk.

This is just one outstanding road. The thrill is the scenery, not the speed. I fell in love with this road traveling down from the Painted Desert and heading out through Siver City. Don't forget about The Catwalk on 180 just on the west side of Siver City. This is a great ride!!! You cannot go wrong.

Rode this yesterday (Twice!) in extreme wind and still have to say its one of my favorite rides ever. Almost continuous curves, switchbacks, and exchanges until you get to Hillsboro from Silver City. The only other road that even compares that I have ridden is the River Road outside of Big Bend. Lots of dragging footpegs and face splitting grins. The quality of the road is fairly good however during this time of year there is a light spray of gravel in some areas that will more tha likely clear as the season progresses. There isn't any fuel throughout this ride so it would be best to fuel up before in sliver city or at the end of the ride at the little rv/ gas station past the four way stop under the bridge in Caballo.

What a surprise! This road was made for motorcycles, BUT you'd better like LOTS of hairpins and curves. A few troublesome black snakes in the sweltering sun, otherwise a reasonable surface. Was 101 leaving Caballo, so most of the ride was HOT Mid-May. Go for the ride, not the destination. Otherwise you will be frustrated by the time you get there...lots of 10-15 mph curves. Beautiful scenery!

This is a must ride. Great road. Tight twisties. Beautiful views if you have a chance to take your eyes off the road. But once I reached Silver City, I wish I would have turned around and rode it again. Instead went west on 180 and up 12. 180 was just ok. And 12 was a conplete bore.
