Did the ride Tuesday 6/11/2019 I started in Silver City. Route is in great shape, not many cars or trucks. The route from Bayard through Mimbres on Rte 35 is very chill, lots of great scenery, little streams on the side of the road etc.
It gets even better when you make that right turn on Rte 15 to the Gila Cliff dwellings. Road is in great shape and lots of twists and turns!! There are breathtaking views and lots of places to pull over for pictures,
On the way back, past Rt3 35,it gets a lot tighter and twistier. You don't have a lot of time to set up between corners and sight lines tend to be blocked by trees, so be wary of oncoming traffic.
That being said, the road was recently paved and was in excellent shape. There were so many twists and turns, I was literally exhausted from the adrenaline rush and the physicality of constantly turning, braking and accelerating.
Make sure to gas up before you head out, I didn't see any gas stations when I did my ride.

The road from Pinos Altos to the Gila Cliff dwelling is truly a blast. If you are in Pinos Altos for supper stop at the Buckhorn Saloon. Great food at a highly rated restaurant.

Second best motorcycle road in New Mexico. Best is nearby, the 152 to Hillsboro , which can be included in this loop if you are feeling frisky. While the hairpins from Lake Roberts to Pinos Altos are great, they might be just a tad too tight for maximum fun for many riders. But the south facing slope of the run to the Cliff Dwellings is just about perfect. Not too challenging so you can take the twists a bit faster, and better still, there is a few miles on that side of the mountain that is a perfect rhythm section that will have you squealing with delight. Even better on a rainy day. Perfect camber on the turns. Plan enough time to take the short hike to the cliff dwellings, or camp overnight and visit nearby hot springs on the middle fork trail of the Gila river. Springs are primitive, on the right side of the stream, only about a half mile up the trail from the parking.
