This is one of the best routes I've ridden so far. Road is in great shape, lots of great curves and long sweeping turns. There is also plenty of places to overtake the very occasional car or truck, I did the ride Thursday 6/13/2019. I also did the road to Rio Pelasco, not very good and I went down Rte. 130 about 10 miles and turned back, pretty good but not nearly as fun as the Cloudcroft to Timberon route. Scenery and the roads are amazing. One thing, gas up in Cloudcroft, but they only have 88 octane :{.
I'm hoping nobody reads this, so when I come back I have the road all to myself, again!!

Outstanding ride with excellent scenery, good pavement and a good mix of twisties and sweeping curves. For the first reviewer's question, there is no paved route (or even a good gravel road) south of Timberon going to US 54 -- your only choice is to go back the way you came. There are a couple of seasonal places to eat at in Timberon, but no fuel. Best to fuel and eat in Cloudcroft.

Looks like a very interesting route I am considering on doing. One question (may seem dum) but are there any non-restricted routes to route 54 through fort bliss from Timberon? Any info would be appreciated!

Excellent mountain road, but at 9000 feet elevation, don't forget your rain gear. Summer storms can soak you fast up there, and you might even need the rain gear for warmth if you hit the top too early in the day, even in summer! Its not usually a ride in your vest kind of place. This road is very well maintained, and once you know it, it can either rip fast like the local ranchers drive it, or just cruise it slow so you see all the elk. One notorious gotcha corner when returning north. As you pass the old 3 M ranch, watch out for the big wide open right hand sweeper, followed by a surprisingly tight left. Lots of bikers crash there at that corner if they are ripping it. Steady 60 mph highest speed on this road is smart, till you know it. The rest of the road is more consistent. if its hairpins, the next corner same, if its a big sweeper, the next one same.

I get rained on every time I do this one, but it’s worth it.

From Cloudcroft taking Hwy 130 to Hwy 6563 which is 26 miles down to Timberon is the Best 26 miles of Rode I have ever ridden. Great twisty rode with major elevation changes along the way. I was there on a Tuesday to avoid any Tourists and it really paid off. No vehicles at the trail heads at all. I had the rode all to my self. Temperatures in the upper 60's around noon and they dropped about 10 degrees as I went over the highest point along the way. Just beautiful scenery and pristine road conditions. I highly recommend this route. Plus, you can stop in Timberon and have lunch at a quaint little place called Connie's Deli. Then ride all the way back the other way.
