This road is superb...I will admit my bias towards it though as it happens to be my favorite local ride. The best part of the trip is the southern portion. So if you can only ride part of it, definitely go with the Salem to Winona part. The road around Eminence is the most technically challenging. The corners are not really that tight, but they are very long, linked together, banked, and have several elevation changes which together can make holding the 55mph speed limit tedious in some places.
The only thing that you should be aware of is that some of the locals have years of experience on this route and are comfortable with driving just way too fast, so be prepared for an angry large pickup or even a bus pulling a load of canoes to be on your rear-end for a portion of the trip; even if you think you are Valentino Rossi.

+ many for this road.
I rode most of this route yesterday, entering the route southbound at Owensville. There were enough turns and twists to keep an aggressive rider pleased, but nothing was so challenging that a careful novice would have problems.

A great "shortcut" on my ride from K.C. to Paducah. You have the chance to see the unpretentious side of the USA when on a road like this. You see the unpainted homes, the old pickups, the areas with trees and game and hidden water sports and realize how much of the off-beat country is fun to see. This is so much slower than being on an interstate in that you don't try to keep up speed, but just want to peer around all the valley bottoms.

I love this ride and make it a point to hit it at least once a year. Keep in mind the southern portion of this route (south of I-44) has many campgrounds and floating/rafting outposts along the way. So beware of the occassional minivan with a family of 7 hauling a camper twice it's size. I've learned to either hit this road in the early hours on Sat/Sun or stick to a week day.

Continue the road on to Van Buren area. That stretch is definitley worht it. I have told many folks about 19. Cycle World even rated it top 10 one year.

I've ridden this route 6 times. The 1st trip I thought I was really handling the curves in a brisk manner. That was until I got passed by a school bus hauling a trailer of canoes. A very scenic route with enough ammenities.

Rode 2-up on Cuba to Winona segment. Highway is in very good condition. Great scenery! Ride from Cherryville to Salem, and from Gladden to Winona are twisty enough for a little excitement for seasoned riders, but gentle enough for novices. Light traffic for a Sunday morning ride, but river float concessions could slow traffic at times.
Also rode on to Afton. Highway condition was good, not great. Still good scenery, twisty.

We've ridden Hwy 19 from the beginning (South of Hannibal) to the end (ARkansas). It is an absolutely GREAT ROAD.
From Hermann southward is the best part.
Lots of places to pull over and take it all in.
Never worried about gassing up as there are plenty of stations on the way. If you live in Missouri, this is a MUST RIDE!!!!

HIghway 19 from North Missouri (Hannibal) to the Arkansas line is one of the best rides in the State of Missouri.
It has everything a rider can imagine.

Rode up from Arkansas, primarily to ride this road. Stayed at Osage Beach. Rode to Hermann and started. The road disappointed me a little until I got south of Salem. It was awesome to Thayer. Stick with it,
