Very Twisty fun ride. There is a bar in the heart of Welch called Cannon River Inn at the 4 way stop sign that everyone over looks. They have picnic tables outside. Absolutely amazing burgers - much better than Kings in Miesville. The best part is sitting outside on a hot summer day and watching the bikini's come off the river from the Tubing place. We spent the whole afternoon one day. Not sure what was more fun the ride or the view at the bar.

To make this run a loop, try taking hwy 35 (cty Q) out of Prescott, Wi to Hager City. You can then take the bridge across to Red Wing.I have not ridden this road for several years, but the last time I was on it, the conditions were pretty good. We used to call the section from Prescott to Diamond bluff the "Roller coaster". Try it and you'll see why.

Beautiful, short ride. I agree with another reviewer to be watchful for gravel.

Really the jewel is Co 7 Blvd. A little short but run it a few times in each direction. There are not too many roads like it in MN (reminds me of the double letters in SW Wisc). The repaving has been completed, and has left a surface that is OK, but grooves/ridges give the feeling of wandering at times. !!! Watch for the Sherrif !!! It seems that when Christmas Party funds get low, they can be replenished in Welch.

Just cranked this ride out. A couple signs I believe we’re place to put you on guard, like roadwork, loose gravel. I couldn’t find the spots. Great afternoon run. Remember, a it will be a great ride that was not a race.

Welch village road is one of the best motorcycle roads in the state. I just wish it was a little bit longer.

One of my favorites, though, it's always part of a longer ride. Since I'm in St Paul, I usually take 61 to Hastings and then left on 10th St that turns into Ravenna Trail (MN54), left on MN68 that runs past the Casino. Right before heading up the hill (you'll know it when you see it) take a right on Cty 19 Blvd. That winds to 61 just east of the Welch Rd so take a right and then a left by the Luthern Church a mile or so west. You'll be at the start of this route.

If the roads happen to be clean, this is a very fun run (ive ridden it when they were clean and when they were covered in gravel or farm mud). Also, if it isn't warm enough for canon river tubing to be busy, take the recommendation for the bar in welch seriously. On a chilly day, I was the only one in the bar and almost the only one going back and forth on the twisties.

Excellent trip. The roads are choppy, but lots of long, sweeping turns and technical sections.

The tar-snake fairy hit this road pretty hard this spring leaving me fairly driven to invent something to do away with that nasty stuff forever. Then I will spend the rest of my time finding the guy who feels its necessary to apply it with a damn 12" roller or hot mop. After i drown him in hot tar for applying it parallel to the direction of travel, as if trying to kill motorcyclists, I will probably blow by the burger vendors that are on here advertising their street meat, and hit the other numbered county road boulevard s that are directly south of Vasa. They are left off this route but should seriously be included to your route no matter where you opt to drive a burger into your gut...

Great curves and hills, watch for gravel around some curves. You better eat in Hastings or Redwing.

This is a fun route -- lots of curves, low traffic. Stop by King's Bar on your way to County 7 -- Voted Best Burger in MN!

The road from 61 to Vasa through Welch (Cty Rd 7) is very good. The twisties are a lot of fun, but Steve's comment about gravel is valid, as the side roads and shoulders are not paved. Pavement on 7 is excellent. 19 from Vasa to Red Wing is nice, although more a relaxed meander down into the river valley with some scenic farms than the ride on 7. I love the poetry painted on the barn that you see on the north side of 19, now the site of a music shop specializing, I believe, in harps. I've noticed that more than one area barn has that and wonder about the roots of that practice. Short, but a sweet ride. Good for an after-work run for area residents.

Highway 7 on this route is a blast.right when i got on it botu 2 minutes in i saw a sheriff, so watchout. Also the whole road has gravel shoulders. Its like landscaping gravel. Alot of the turns have this gravel out on the blacktop, so be careful.

I Rode this on a whim last year before finding this site. Great road for a short jaunt. There is a little sandwich and ice cream shop the bicyclists fequent in Welch. Or wait for the Brick House in Red Wing.
