Watch for deer on this ride - my wife and I went down after hitting a large one on the 35 side of this trip in Buffalo County, WI - 10:30 am at the end of June!
The blankety-blank DNR departments of Iowa, Wi, and MN [possibly others] need to either cut the populations of these critters down or be shot!

I really enjoy the river rides, nice sweeping curves, roads are well maintained. I do beleive the view of the River is better on the Wisconsin side.

Right now they are working on 61 between Winona and Wabasha. If you take this trip in the fall make sure to stop for a good apple just outside of Lake City. Also the Wisconsin side has many interesting side trip roads. Get some county maps and travel some of the less traveled roads for some great scenery!

I personally think this ride is boring. The road surface are rough and uneven and traffic on the weekends is horrible.

I took a trip to Onalaska, WI last year, and decided to ride to Wabasha, MN since one of my absolute favorite movies is Grumpy Old Men. I decided to take this loop for the trip. Despite the rain I rode in throughout that day, I had a great time. The roads were decent, and following the river was nice. There were a few places to stop along the way, and plenty of chances to get gas. I stopped at Slippery's for lunch, because, well, Grumpy Old Men, it's the thing to do. Very enjoyable ride, and I have absolutely no regrets. I'd love to do it again in better weather, but all was well.

Great ride along the mighty Mississippi river from both side. The views of the bluffs are awesome and the two lane roads are kept in good condition with lots of curves following the river. Think about the sun which will shine on the Minnesota side on the morning and Wisconsin side in the afternoon.

Beautiful colors on the bluffs with the trees beginning to change. The roads, 61 and 35, were in good repair and traffic was moderate. Plenty of curves to lean into.

Both sides of the river are great. You stay closer to the Mississippi on the Minnesota side. Great little places to stop anywhere along the route.

This is one of my favorite rides from the twin cities. A quick shot east on 494 brings you right to the start of this route. The scenery is a nice mix of forest, river, lake, farmland and small town. Plenty of places to stop along the way for gas or food or drinks.

Ride it every July with a pack of obnoxious hooligans. Always great, through rain, heat and everything in between. Can get a little crowded on the weekends. Stop at Ed's No Name in Winona if you go!

Rating is average of Minnesota side 7 and Wisconsin side 9.In April through October, time your trip to arrive at the Harbor View Cafe in Pepin Wisconsin about an hour before they open to get on the list ... no reservations accepted. For around $30 you'll get a meal that would cost $100-$200 in any city. It is worth another star or two in the amenities column all by itself. Check their website for hours and location. (No affiliation, just a long-time fan. We make the two-hour drive a few times each year for birthdays and such.)

This ride is excellent. We start out in Prescott and head south on 35. Maiden Rock is a great place to stop, small little town with some good bars that love the bikers. WI side definitely seems more peaceful and country, but the scenery on either side is great.

a very nice road, best done over a weekend, if you like going fast try early morning saturday or sunday hours when the roads are almost empty except for sport bike riders. I did this over 2 days with a night stay near lake pepin and then left at 6 am. If you live within a 100 mile radius this is worth it. Will probalby do it again ( i did the Wisonsin side this time which apparently has better scenery)

An awesome stretch of road. HWY61 on the MN side is two-lanes each way for most of the ride. Towns like Winona and Red Wing offer good stops about 40 miles apart. HWY35 on the WI side offers single lane and more "peaceful" side of the ride. Smaller towns along the route, but great small town greasy spoons.
This is essentially the same route open in the spring and fall as the Flood Run - vendors and busy stops all along the route.

Great ride. Stays close to the river most of the way. Lots of small little river towns. If you have more time, I would recommend adding on hastings and prescott to the loop. Will add about another hour.

Great loop, I personally enjoyed the WI side better, with its small towns and relaxed feel. Took some side roads to check out the river. Both sides (WI and MN ) are great for riding though. Good sweepers and scenery. Stopped in Onalaska and had dinner and pints at The Wharf, highly recommend this local hangout.
