Awesome loop. Try to avoid any part of Rt 2 before Athol if you can. Rt 112 was our favorite stretch of the whole trip. Also when at the end of Rt 116, take Rt 9 East out of Amherst to Pelham. Also, the directions say take Rt 122 East, but 122 runs North to South so you'll want South. All in all one of the nicest loops in MA!

Sweet ride... Rode it during the hight of foliage season 10/2015. Colors were spectacular. Roads were in very good condition. Stopped in Shelburne Falls for a great dinner too.
Ride in direction of listing in the AM or the opposite in the afternoons into the PM to avoid solar glare.

Beautiful country, no doubt. Be aware that the road construction in the Shelburne Falls area can be very disorienting. Riding on rough dirt really spoils a trip.

Nice loop. Loved Shelburne Falls! However, I tend to avoid Rt 2 between Leominster and Orange.

Had a great time doing it! Had done the Aqua in Loop previously, but in the pouring rain. This was much more fun, as the heat broke today after two unbearably humid days. Lots of scenery, even in August without foliage. Best part was countryside on 112 and 116.

Hope this isn't a double review...
Had a blast on this one. Did the Quabbin Loop previously, but in the pouring rain, so this one was much more enjoyable since the heat broke from two awful days of humidity. Best parts were 112 and 116. Rt. 2 wasn't even that bad, pretty nice scenery for a state highway. Good scenery, even without Fall foliage.

This route has it all, from straight and flat to narrow and twisty. It was a beautiful ride on a cool spring day, and well worth the time.
There were gas stations and food along the way, and plenty of beautiful scenery, from narrow tree lined two lane blacktops, to stretches through open fields that stretched out into the distance.
I'm looking forward to riding this route again when I get back to the area.
