The description of this road is incomplete.Instead of starting in Sloan, one should catch D-25 (old 141) out of Sioux City. (Morningside Blvd. exit on the Hwy 20 bypass.
Head east bound at the exit. Will quickly go southbound) This will take you all the way to Smithland at which point you hook up with the "new" Hwy 141 which you can take clear to Denison.
Great views, twisties abound. Many offshoots that also have twisties through the Loess Hills. Most excellent area to ride. Generally, minimal traffic.

This is not properly namaed as OLD Highway 141 runs from Sioux City to Smithland IA. This route follows the current 141 but it is a nice ride from smithland on I would recommend starting in Sioux City and riding to smithland then follow the rest of the route east

I quite agree with Mike Lueken's assessment on the route. Need to start at the old 141 in Sioux City and run to Dennison. Very pretty with a nice curvy road which is what I give the 4 for.

Mike is absolutely correct. By missing the old 141 connection out of Sioux City you may be missing the most beautiful part of the ride. In contrast, by leaving from Sloan, you are gaining the least interesting part of the ride. Those two alternate stretches are at the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of riding enjoyment.

I have ridden this route from Sioux City (Morning side Ave) through to Soldier, IA. It is a windy road and conditions do change throughout the ride, but a good road to ride. Brought many out of town friends down this route and they all have enjoyed it.

Came up to Coon Rapids from Addair/White Pole Rd jumped on 141 in Coon Rapids, this was part of our route from Des Moines to Sioux City to get off the boring slab. Picked up Old 141 in Smithland, (there is a right-hand lane for it if you are riding west just past or at Smithland Country Store) rode to US-75/US-20 interchange. Pavement was okay, if memory serves, rough in a few places, but a curvy, fun road with hardly any traffic. I am sure there were some views here and there, but don’t recall them. Actually rode the 141 part from Sloan to Smithland (authors description) on return trip home, if I recall better road surface than Old 141, but more traffic and doesn’t have the twists. Like the Old 141 section better.
