We took this ride a couple weeks ago. Left alton and went to the ABATE rally in Altamont (it was dissapointing) Left there the next day and went to Marion and spent the night. Woke up next day and started the route. It really was amazing. One thing that was left out was, about 9 miles up the road from Garden of the Gods (which is beautiful. Didnt realize Illinois had counrty like that) is a place calle Pounds Hollow, which is a small lake in the middle of no where. They turned it into a state park and it is beautiful. Take your swim suits because it has nice sandy beaches and a really nice swimming area. This whole trip is a must do. we spent 4 days on this trip and never touched a highway.

Two edits to this amazing ride (1)when Going south on Rt 34 in H'burg to turn east left before Karbers Ridge Rd and take Gap hollow road assume section to the stop sign, you can either continue east straight or turn right - both take you back to main route (2)

nice ride but keep going west on route 13 to route 3 south and ride it all the way cairo, great scenic buffs and scenic views of the mississippi river, many place to stop and get something to eat and many place to stop and get beer or two.

Hit most of this route with my 9 year old on the back of my bike this week. The scenery is phenomenal and the ride has some nice curves and hills.
