Few roads could ever compare to the high altitude scenery this ride will provide. Similar to Pikes Peak but it's paved all the way to the summit. It's a thriller. A must ride. But, be very careful. Take your time. The switchbacks are very sharp and narrow.

The El Rancho route will have less traffic congestion but have many bicyclists so be careful on those blind curves. There are restrooms at Summit Lake, probably about the half way point. One more word of caution, watch out for the bighorn sheep. They are very tame and can be found on the roadway anywhere above timberline. This is a great opportunity to take some incredible pictures so don't forget the camera. At only 60 miles from Denver to the summit, this is a must see.

Beautiful ride, plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery. Take plenty of water, the altitude will hit you in a hurry.

I really like starting from The El Rancho way and heading west on Squaw Pass Rd. to the gift shop and diner.
You can't ride your bike to a higher point anywhere in the North American continent than here, not far away is another high adventure that entails riding to Leadville which is the highest incorporated city in N.America.

To ride the highest navigable mountain in the U.S. (North America) was an accomplishment.. was not anticipating the tight switchbacks, and glad I practice slow riding techniques. I went on a Sunday, so was busy, and it was the week before a bicycle race (so lots of riders out practicing and yeah, they ride right to the summit.) Did one hairpin following a bicyclist (really slow) and 5 cars stopped above us.. so no room. I tip my helmet to the riders on dressers and a Gold Wing, with passengers. Great weather at the bottom, rain moved in, lightning near the summit and it was close, then hail in the parking lot. After a similar situation the day before in Rocky Mountain Nat. Park, I didn't linger at the top, got my pics and hit the road down. You can definitely feel the altitude.. air is thin. Felt damn good about my riding skills after this one. July 2017

The change from mountain valleys to mountain tops is a normal ride in Colorado. This is a spectacular normal ride. Even more fun when you learn and observe the various geological formations and the types of vegetation along the way.

I feel so honored to have ridden this road . . . Colorado was my 2nd BIG motorcycle trip, with Wyoming being the first. Mt. Evans is definitely a thrill in many ways. The road is narrow, somewhat bumpy and doesn't offer many guard rails, if any. The day we went it seemed rather congested and as though nobody wanted to share the road, but again, it's a very narrow road. Breathtaking, literally, the altitude will get you if you're not accustomed to it. My bike didn't like the altitude either but we did it and loved every minute! Took this trip with 10 other bikers from KY - best time of my life yet!

This was an amazing road. The the wildlife, The swicthbacks that come with instant Karma if you miss one of them, No Guardrails and the dizzing altitude all add up to a check mark on the do not miss list.

In addition to proper riding attire, fleece and rain gear are always appropriate for the ride up this mountain since weather can change at a moments notice. During a beautiful clear day, fog rolled in as my buddy and I descended down the mountain. We were pelted with quarter-inch ice pellets for a third-mile @ half-way point and then rode in full sun to the base.

rode this route right after Labor Day, 2012, so Summit Lake was as high as one could go because the road to the summit from that point was closed "for the winter".

Road was just repaved. Beautiful scenery - we drove all the top 10 roads in Colorado and this was my favorite. It had everything.

Enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. It's the ride up Mt Evans or the road to Evergreen that's more special

Rode it on a bicycle years ago when the building at the summit was still open. It burned some time later and was never rebuilt. Spectacular road however you ride or drive it.

I'm giving this road a 3 due to the high traffic of cars and bicycles along with all the frost heaving in road. This is a seasonal road and there is no doubt it's a must do for anyone who rides at least once and it can be nice and sunny at Echo Lake (at the bottom where you pay) and it can be snowing on the top. I like to use my GoPro since you must have your head in the game due to the previously mentioned. There are usually (at least when I've been) mountain goats up at the top near the bathrooms. It is something everyone should do. No guardrails and switchbacks near the top.

I gave this a five I love scenic vistas and twisted roads this has both. IF you don't like switchbacks and heights this might not be for you and just for reference if your hoping for guard rails there aren't any.
