Great Ride! Highly recommend! Following the described route directions, the road surface leaving Lake Isbella can have some rough parts until you get to the 190. Lots of 2nd gear turns with some very narrow sections before you reach the 190 as well. However, the views are spectacular as you climb in elevation. Once on the 190, the road quality improves massively and the corners become more sweepers (60mph ). Around the Camp Nelson area, the road tightens up drastically! It's miles and miles and miles of 2nd gear switch backs with even some 1st gear thrown in. It will wear you out wonderfully! The views are fantastic all the way. The road stays a 2 lane road the entire way. Be careful on the south end of the 190 as it's a popular backpacker/day hiker spot. It's the mountains, so be aware of deer as well. This road is closed for winter. Elevation is high if your bike is carbureted.

absolutely a wonderful rider. My GF and I celebrated our anniversary up there. You can turn this run into a weekend trip with this being the last part of the trip. You can stay McNallys https://www.mcnallysonthekern.com/index.html There's the link great food and atmosphere. Try the 40oz porterhouse! Gas up in Kernville because the next fill up on that route is Brewer's family ponderosa lodge. Enjoy the run.

It's a beautiful road through the mountains but it is in an area with a high density of deer and free range cattle. I have since more deer on three rides on this road than I have in forty years of riding in the mountains of California and Colorado. My wife and I had a serious accident on our last ride there when a doe leaped into our path. Best time to ride this road is mid day, avoid dawn and dusk.

A side road to yours is 22S05, also known as the General Hwy. The turn off to it is North of Fairview. You start by climbing, then you are on a great roller coaster of up and downs and lots of switchbacks. Zoom in on the map on the squiggly lines for an idea of the fun. The road is good and well paved. Not to many places to pull off, put there is a rest stop along the way. It drops you down on the North side to 395. Turn right and there is a gas station within a few miles.

If you like turns this is your ride. The Tail of the Dragon has nothing on this ride. The scenery is beautiful also when you have a chance to take your eyes off the road.
