Stop at Turtle Rock at Lake Berryessa for great egg rolls--hand made there on site. If you decide to travel the Knoxville Road to Clear Lake be aware that there is nothing but nothing on this road --make sure you have gas, snacks and water. The road is also not particularly smooth so it's not to be ridden at a fast pace. DO NOT ride this road until very late in the spring --the small creeks run over the road and create very mossy, extremely slippery spots that can easily take you down.Hwy 128 also connects to Winters so it's easily accessible from the Sacramento area. Check out the Putah Creek Cafe or Cody's for lunch or the Buckhorn for dinner. We ride up from Winters on 128, have egg rolls at Turtle Rock and then continue on 128 over towards Calistoga to Buster's BBQ --great, fingerlickin' food --then we head back home on 121/128. Take your time, watch out for potholes and idiots in cars --especially around the lake in the summer --this is a fun road but we have seen some pretty horrible bike accidents because the bikers were taking the turns faster than they should for their level of experience.

The road leading up to the lake is well-paved, with some awesome tight corners. I went early so as not to hit traffic. I ended up going all the way to Clear Lake. The road quality degrades severely (floods during rain season and potholes created from frost in winter) after Lake Berryessa. Also, be sure to keep tabs on your gas, as I didn't see a place to fill up between the south end of Lake Berryessa and Lower Lake.

My review of this one is the same as a route close by:
This is a pretty good route. Its sort of short, I usually do this one and the one from lake Berryessa to Napa in one day. Its tight and technical, not for the faint of heart. Its close to sacramento where I live. My only critique is that its not terribly long. If you are looking to spend all day riding you will be let down. But if you are newer and want to get your feet wet with some twisties, hit this up!

Fun road, very remote. The road quality is poor, and is unpaved in sections. During rainy months, the local creeks flood the road. I've not see a single other vehicle on the road when I've gone. Enduro would probably have the most fun here. Going from North to south it spits you out at Berryessa, where the road quality notably improves and traffic picks up slightly. Overall expect great scenery but slow riding. Be aware that you may have to turn back at some point if the road is flooded and plan gas accordingly.

We rode this route and did not enjoy it as much as other rides (Woodside, CA) The view at the lake however was very nice. There are several patches to this road and some areas near the lake farther north are spotty going to Clear Lake. There were also many cars to get bunched up with and had to back off to give room to run through turns. Its better to go in the morning. I don't think we'll go back unless with a group.

This is a very cool area to ride. US 128 and 121 are both fun roads to ride with lots of twists and turns. I just got back from riding Berryesa-Knoxville Rd for the first time. From the 128 turn off at Turtle Rock Cafe to where you cross Lake Berryesa, the road is very good and the views are great. Things deteriorate quickly once you leave the lake. The road is in terrible shape for about 15-20 miles. It felt more like off roading at times as plodded along dodging potholes that were lurking in the shadows and were hard to see. My wife and I agreed that this ride was a "one and done" for us.

Next time I will stay on 128. Loop through the Pope Valley area. This ends up looping back to 128, but the road is much better and you can drive the twisties at speed.

Lots of curves & beautiful scenery. Traffic can take some of the fun out of this road so go early or at an off time.

We rode this one last week. It's worth a run. Lots of twisties, great scenery, not a lot of people on the road. It all worked for me. The route ends at the sign for Clearlake. Highly suggest Boars Breath Bar Grill & Smoker (14667 Lakeshore Dr). We had a delicious lunch and they had a nice spot to eat on the lake behind the restaurant.

Good variety of sights to see: small towns, ranches, vineyards, forests, burnt forests and of course a big lake best describes as Mini Tahoe. There are many roads that you could use to get to the final stretch by the lake and some come from south like Cordelia so that you can make a loop instead of a there and back.

This Hwy is AMAZING. By far my favorite out of all that i have ridden. The turns are so nice and swooping you can take them at full speed comfortably. There are definitely a few places here and there where you get a few switchbacks and hair pin turns but other than that, it is absolutely beautiful and a joy to ride on this Hwy.
