I rode Deals Gap in April on my Beemer. I have ridden this stretch of highway many times, the most recent in July and it is absolutely the closest thing to the Dragon of any road in Calif, including the "Mini Dragon" on highway 49 which I ride quite often. Riders, this piece of road is the real thing in twists and turns, there is no better anywhere.

Excellent! Early morning had very little traffic. 4 wheel tourists and motorhomes tend to come over the line frequently and locals really seem to fly. Planning to include this route in our next ride up the coast.

I have ridden all 50 states and this stretch rates in my top 10. In my estimation, it beats the Tail, simply because on this road, you can start on the PCH, ride the closest thing to the Tail you will find anywhere, then end up riding the Avenue of the Giants thru the Redwoods. Five Star all the way!

This is almost like "The Dragon" in TN. Sharp and fun curves from Leggett to Fort Bragg. Would not recommend riding when roads are wet. Roads are good, but had allot of dirt from the washing banks along the road. Two rock slide areas also. Be careful. It was fun, would recommend. No gas stations until your closer to Fort Bragg.

I'll second that. Legget to Rockport is an awesome ride. From Rockport to Stinson Beach is just as fun, maybe a little more dramatic in some places.

Drove it in my wife's Mini when we took hwy 1 all the way up the coast. It was the most fun stretch of road I have ever been on, hands down. The central coast portions were fun, but the cliffs kinda detract from the pure enjoyment of whaling on the corners. I dream of the next chance I get to carve this run one more time.

Nice ride, Route 20 is moderate twisty and very good pavement, US1 is very scenic and moderate pavement. US101 is not twisty, good pavement. Overall a very nice ride.

So far this is one of my favorite routes. NOT for the faint of heart. Not for the noobie, if you do go, go alone and GO YOUR OWN PACE.
I usually only go from willits to fort bragg, thats really the best part, all the other part north is just fluff compared to hwy 20.

One of the best riding areas in NorCal. In Ft. Bragg, I highly recommend The Bar Below for dinner and drinks, and the Travel Lodge towards the north end of town. They cater to the biker community. I met some Germans that rented Harley's here...

This is a great route but if you want to add an increase in twisties take the Brandscome road West at Latonville when your heading North on Hwy 101. The last 10 miles of this road just past the old mill town of Brandscome, before you hit the coast are epic, watch out for logging trucks.
At Hwy 1 go North and you'll still catch the Leggit section of this road which is a good ride as well.

I rode the Northern section, not knowing what I was getting into and I have to say that it was just repaved in 2019. The road is very much a fun ride and if it didn't take me 8 hours of the day just to get there I'd be on it so much more. It has a very nice groove to it and flows very well when riding. I've ridden the tail of the dragon as well and that one feels like individual corners lined up for you, this one is more like they flow together. One is not better than the other in my book, both 5's.

Driving through the redwood trees is indescribable.
For this road, when going through the redwoods, the turns are nice and smooth and if it is a hot day, the shade from the trees really helps. Only thing is, going super fast is not a good idea. Animals did, do and will come out in front of motorcyclists.
overall though, probably one of the most enjoyable rides i have ever gone on. Definitely recommend for every one to try.
