It should be noted that the intersection of S2 and 78 is not an exact crossing, you need to turn right onto 78 and travel about 500 yards then turn left to pick up S2 again as you travel this route south. There are no gas stops along this route that I know of and during the summer it does get VERY hot. This is probably one of the greatest and least ridden routes in San Diego county.

This is a great ride, I start in Temecula and take the 79 to the S2 to the 8 south to sunrise Hwy up to Julian then back to Temecula. The S2 route is Ca desert at its best, lots of rolling hills and great scenery and the pie in Julian is xlnt.

I have driven this road 5 or 6 time and it s always exciting to do the ride again. There is nothing like a ride in the desert, it calls you back again.

Under used route between Interstate 8 and Hwy 78. There is a great San Diego County camp ground and hot springs on S2. Awesome weekend ride/getaway in the fall, winter and spring. Very hot in the summer. Going west on Hwy 78 will take you to S.D. mountains and more great rides.

The views on this ride are staggering!! You should always be prepared for cooler weather with the higher elevations and a long wait if turning towards Julian in the late summer/fall time.

Just did this out and back yesterday (Early October). I went a bit out of the way and got a late breakfast in Julian on my way south, then an early dinner in Julian on my way North. Stopped at the Vallecito Stage Station County Park to drink some water and use the restroom, $3 charge to hangout, they have great cell service there surprisingly. 10/10 recommend, was only in the mid 80s temp wise when I went, I could see it being miserable if it was much hotter.
