This is a great ride but the reviewer left out the Hwy 236 route. At Boulder Creek take the 236 for a breathtaking ride through some of the most twisted roads you will ever encounter. Throw in the beautiful scenery of the Santa Cruz redwoods and it is breath taking. Not for the faint of heart to be sure. After your done with this ride come back to Boulder Creek Brewery for some tasty micro brews.

Nice ride. I would also recommend riding Highway 35 north to Highway 84 west. Stop at Alice's and say high to the dozens (or hundreds on a weekend) of other motorcylists there. Watch for police, as they tend to hang here also. You could even head all the way up to Highway 92 and head west to Half Moon Bay. Beautiful day-long ride if the fogs backs off.

I've ridden these roads dozens, if not hundreds, of times. Most of the roads in this area are scenic and twisty. Sometimes traffic is a problem, especially on Hwy 9, but there are other options. In the summer, check out the strange plant that smells like salami!

If I were you, I'd just take the 17 from San Jose, down to Santa Cruz, onto the 1 then up Bay Street and finish the route. The Summit Road-Soquel/San Jose rd isn't that great. There is just too much traffic on those roads, and too many houses opening into the road.

That aside; Bay road, and back up North is great. Stop in Boulder Creek for lunch. Have a blast on the 9 back to the 17. That's where the fun is. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere for a good day out.

This is a nice route that I ride often as a local. It’s a bit crowded with cars and houses and some businesses, but it’s a nice way to spend a couple hours on my bike. I wouldn’t go out of my way to ride it, but if you’re local it’s a good time and you probably already know about it.
