This road is absolutely great. I've ridden this thing since before they came along with the Interstste. It is trageic what happen to the souviner shops along the way. Great road to ride especially in the morning time, as i live very close to this route I can't get enough. After you go across the more hilly section of this road is a little known road 77 that is full of farms and scenic beauty also. Along the way, heading west, on the right is a sping that was used and still is for people to get some of the drinking water. Some of the purest water there is. The fall is the best time by far to ride 71 to take in the beauty of the turning leaves. Wow, what a site.

Back when this road was the main way to get to Fayetteville I would curse every inch of it. Now that the traffic has dried up to a trickle, it's a scenic and peaceful ride.

I almost feel bad about the 3 rating, but I feel that with all the other roads in the area, this really is just par. The pavement was good for the most part, but nothing really challenging. Taking my hand off to waive to passing bikes in the more aggressive corners wasn't even something to worry about. Having said that, it really is pretty, and the scenery changes enough to not get dull.

I've ridden Hwy 71 all the way across Arkansas from a couple time and it's a great ride. Really good road surface, traffic not to bad, and everything you need along to way.

Probably my #1 favorite route to ride, although I may be biased for growing up near here. It's got a little of everything - straight sections, sweeping curves, great scenery no matter what season, and plenty of good places to stop and take pictures if that's your thing. I remember as a kid many of the businesses in the small towns were vibrant and flourishing, and the trucks would really slow you down. After I-540 opened about 15 years ago, traffic on this road dried up to nearly nothing, and many times you can make it the whole with and see maybe one or two cars. There's a nice rest area near Brentwood that is kept up by the local community after it was abandoned by the state. If you stop there, drop a dollar into the donation box to help them out.

Good roads with distracting scenery. A wonderful ride with uncommon views. Take your time and stop at every overlook. Food isn't great but OK along route. Watch for animals and slow vehicles.

Oct. 16, 2010. Rode from Windingstair Mountain to Devils Den to Alma and back again. 317 miles day trip. Awesome ride but stay off of Arkansas State Hwy 220. It's a friggin' dirt, gravel and rock road.

We had a very hot ride 8/10/10. Arkansas was in the midst of triple-digit heat and our travel plans did not allow us to ride only in the cool of the morning. However, that part was on us: so be it! I wanted to comment here in order to alert riders to construction going on along this route. There were flagmen and stop and go traffic over two bridges as well as construction on other parts of the road. We weren't delayed long, and it didn't interfere with our view of the landscape, but the construction looked like it will be there for awhile. There are fun twisty turns and changes in elevation, so watch for the construction but have fun!

Good route when passing through if you want something other than the interstate views and traffic.

Driven on this road in a car many times when I was a student at the University of Arkansas, and well before Interstate 49 was opened. Finally got the chance to ride this route on my FJR year ago, and am looking forward to riding this and many other roads in NWA on my GTL soon when visiting relatives in the area.

Great casual ride. It’s worth taking a detour to devils den near west fork but watch out for gravel on the roads from washed out driveways and chip sealed roads. Great views in the fall and early summer when it’s not too hot.
