I haven't ridden the entire loop, this review is just the 66 portion from Hanging Rock to Hwy 89. I stumbled onto this road while looking for a non-highway/scenic route to King, NC from the Pilot Mtn area.
The asphalt is excellent and there was very little traffic on this Sunday afternoon/evening. I did it two-up and will likely go back with a camera mounted.
I have ridden most available routes from the Mt. Airy area to the parkway (Pipers Gap, Orchard Gap, Fancy Gap and Squirrel spur) and this road is nearly as tight and twisty as any of them except Pipers. But the surface is MUCH better.
