The best part of the road is the last 30 miles of the nearly 150. There are plenty of sweeps and twisties in the northern section, even four lanes, but from Pineville to Kegley it's more switchbacks and sweeps and lots of twists and turns. This was the most enjoyable part. There are many coal mining towns and some pretty high trestles for the railroads in the south. More road cuts and straighter roads in the north. Very long route. Took us several hours, but the temperature was more comfortable in the mountains.
