Written Directions

Just north of Hillsboro, WV, start this ride at the intersection of US 219 and Rt 39 by heading west on Route 39 all the way till you find Rt 150. Take a right on to Rt 150 (heading north) and follow Rt 150 all the way around until it turns east and runs into this routes end point of the intersection Rt 150 and US 219 about 7 miles north of Marlinton, WV.

Scenery

A beautiful ride through the highlands of W.Va. Much of it you look down on trees that look like green fluffy cotton balls. In the fall, it looks like the hills are on fire. A little bit of The Blue ridge Parkway in W.Va. There are four overlooks along the route and many great views of the area. You are mostly atop to the Highlands and Plateau.

Drive Enjoyment

Very smooth road. Much of the roads in the surrounding area are in surprisingly good shape. Good curves, and little traffic. Speed is 45, but it is usually safe to cut it loose here and there. (7/10/2020 update) Since 150 is not maintained in the winter, it' a little bumpier, but generally speaking the road conditions are good. Sweeping road, not really forested there on top.

Tourism Opportunities

Marlinton has food, gas and hotels. Marlinton is to the right at the north exit of Rt.150. To the left at the exit of Rt.39 to the south. Rt.150 southern exit, turn right to go to Richwood for gas and food. Other than that, there is no stores/gas on 150. Some campsites here and there, though... You are pretty much in wilderness. Certainly the parkway doesn't have amenities, but some of the overlooks have restrooms. The towns are not really that large, so make sure your tank is full and don't plan to eat during this hour of travel.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

A little known route. It is a very relaxed ride. Rest areas are dotted along the "highway". Dress warm in the fall, it has been known to snow in Oct. in the mountains...

A laid back, relaxing ride to take in the scenery. Nothing tight, sweepers and elevation changes, hardly any traffic Road is in fantastic shape! A couple overlook points to pull off and take in the views, The Spruce Knob Overlook had a restroom. other overlooks may have as well. The day we were out there it was 96 degrees, but a very comfortable 73 for much of this ride, felt so good, we turned around and rode it back. Food and gas in Marlington. Ate at Greenbriar Grill on 39, sits right on the river, food was good, although we didn't get it, folks beside us were eating pizza and it looked really good. Had we seen it before we ordered, we'd had pizza... next time.
