Written Directions

M29 in New Baltimore, around Lake St. Clair heading north on M29 ending at the Blue Water Bridge border crossing in Port Huron.

Scenery

Starting in New Baltimore, M29 passes through a marsh wildlife reserve after passing through Fair Haven, wraps itself around Lake St. Clair, giving good views of the lake, St. Clair river and lake shore architecture. Lots of trees along the shoreline and a few areas to pull off for viewing along the route. Riding up along the river, outside of Algonac, you will have good views of Canada and the large lake freighter shipping lanes. Ending up under the Blue Water Bridge in the water front park, there are beautiful views of the river entrance from Lake Huron, the awesome expanse of the bridge and Point Edward (Sarnia), Canada and the cool breeze off of the lake.

Drive Enjoyment

Good portion of the ride is smooth with 45-55mph speed limits, 5mph over is about average. Wear and tear of road is decent and smooth(er) in areas, given Michigan history of road care. Most of of the road is 2 lane. Opening up to passing lanes in the smaller towns along the way. Majority of ride is strait and flat with some sweeping turns along the route. Mostly a scenic ride with cool breezes from the lakes during hot summer days.

Tourism Opportunities

Starting at "Anchor Bay Trade Center", which is a weekend flea market that has local vendors buying and selling unique goods. (electronics, leathers, crafts, etc...) Good brewery's and local venues in the towns along the way, and areas to pull off for viewing. "Freighters" restaurant is at the waterfront destination in Port Huron which offers really good, (albeit $$) food, and great view of the water, bridge and Canada.
