Turn right onto PA-221 N/Geen Valley Rd Continue to follow PA-221 N 0.8 mi 3. Turn right onto PA-221 N/Buffalo Creek Rd 3.2 mi 4. Turn left - Sawhill Covered Bridge 5.6 mi/ 9 mins (AS WITH MOST ALL COVERED BRIDGES, WATCH FOR THE GRAVEL RIGHT AT THE COVERED BRIDGE. Turn left to stay on PA-231 S 3.1 mi 9. Turn left to stay on PA-231 S 2.7 mi 10. Turn left onto Main St (Claysville) 9.9 mi/ 18 mins Here you can take an opportunity for gas at Exxon (head West on Rt.40) and if you wish you can grab the Interstate (I-70) which the on ramp is across from the gas station. 11. Head east on US-40 E/Main St toward Parcell St Continue to follow US-40 E 3.8 mi 12. Turn left onto PA-221 N/Green Valley Rd 0.8 mi/ 4.6 mi/ 6 mins Note: While in Claysville check out Brownlee Covered Bridge which is only 2 minutes and 1 mile away. Driving directions to McGuffey Community Park From Claysville, PA 1. Head southwest on Main St toward Green St 0.3 mi 2. Turn left onto PA-231 S/Bell Ave Continue to follow PA-231 S 0.2 mi 3. Turn right onto Beham Ridge Rd 0.5 mi McGuffey Community Park Donegal Township, Pennsylvania

Scenery

You'll see a couple one lane bridges and features a picturesque Covered Bridge. Pavement is good, watch for loose gravel and watch loose buckeyes in the fall. Scenery is nice farms and valley views from a top of the ridge. I have been on Rt. 231 and I have had a hawk follow me on it as I was cascading from a top the ridge to the valley and back up and down and up again , too cool. I recommend it to the Sport riders, not so much for the Cruisers. I dragged a buddy of mine on a Harley Sportster he was scrapping pegs, wasn't too thrilled.

Drive Enjoyment

The route is tight and technical with over seven 15 mph hairpin turns! Pavement is good, watch for loose gravel and watch loose buckeyes in the fall.

Tourism Opportunities

You're pretty much on your own with this one. But the Exxon is a good, and busy gas station with a convenience store. Just off the Interstate so it is easy access.

Nice scenery, good turns and elevation changes.
However, the road quality and gravel in multiple areas make for a bit of a nervous ride.
That being said, if I went back for another round, I reckon I would enjoy it even more.
Recommend you check it out, it was less than a 3 hour round trip for me, and it was worth it!

Nice loop that goes through serene countryside, some nice twisties especially on the 221 portion. Good loop to add to a longer trip, for example taking the 40 to Wheeling, or maybe continuing South on the 221 to Prosperity, cutting back West on Mt Zion road or on the 18 to catch the 231 North back to the 40.
