Title: Green Mountain Spine Waterbury/Killington Loop
State: Vermont

Submitted By: Baron

Date Submitted: Nov 05

Motorcycle Type: 82 Harley FX

Motorcycle Road Length: 130 Miles

Motorcycle Road Scenery:
This route is a wonderful loop thorough the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains. Along the way you'll be surrounded by trees, glens, small farms and green mountains. This is, truly, the heart of Vermont.

Motorcycle Road Quality:
Vermont's paved roads are generally good throughout the state. We take care of things and like them to last. However early in the season you should watch for frost heaves and be aware that ice does hide in the shade long after the sun comes out.

Motorcycle Roadside Amenities:
Not too many roadside stops along the way on RT 100 as far as buildings. The beauty of this ride is the fact that you can go miles without seeing anyone or anything. After you're on RT 12, take in the many small towns along the way. When you're in Montpelier, look into the Capital building and have lunch in the cafeteria with a senator or representative.

Directions:

Written directions:

Start in Waterbury, on RT100/I89 you can gas up and grab a quick bite or coffee at the general store. They're friendly and ready to help you out. If you're in to fishing, ask them about it. Then when you've had your fill, take off on 100S. Stay on this road all the way to Killington Ski area, RT4.

Once you've arrived in Killington you can chill out, grab a bite and gas up once again. You're going to be taking a nice long route back. Keep on RT4 East toward Woodstock.

Once you arrive in Woodstock which is a quaint and historic VT town, stop again, relax, enjoy the white church steeples and houses form the 1700's. Then get back on RT4. Take RT 4 up to RT 12. RT 12 will lead you through many small towns right to Vermont's Capital City. Montpelier. Take in both the Historical Society and Capital Building tour. Then head north on RT2. RT 2 will lead you to RT 100 at Waterbury- your starting point.

Note: If you're up for more good roads, head N on 100 and it to Stowe, turn onto 108 toward Jeffersonville, then head East on 15 toward Hardwick. 14S will bring you down to Barre, the largest and oldest Granite Quarry in the US, and back to RT2.
