29th/Glenna st at highway 87 in San Angelo, TX to highway 67/loop 306. Follow access road to Arden/RM853. Follow 853 until you hit highway 67 again and turn left. Follow 67 to FM 2288 and follow that to Grape Creek. Turn right on highway 87 and follow it to 29th/Glenna. This route makes a figure 8 covering a little less than 70 miles.
Scenery
The bulk of this ride is on two lane country roads. If you ride RM 853 in the springtime when the wild flowers are out you will wish you had your camera with you to stop and get some photos of the carpet of beautiful color. The winding gently rolling roads will take you over a few low water crossings so be prepared if there has been recent heavy rain in the area. On FM 2288 you will have a nice short stretch of curves overlooking San Angelo State park. Not as pretty as RM853 but nothing to shake a stick at for this area of Texas. Highway 67 and Highway 87 are average Texas Highways and are part of this route primarily to keep it flowing. The speed limits are between 65 and 75 mph and much of it is two lanes.
Drive Enjoyment
The roads are pretty good. There are occasional cracks and potholes that I can feel on my Dyna. There are a few high water crossings that are usually dry unless there has been recent rain. As in that day or evening prior. Bugs abound in this area so be ready to clean off your visor, glasses, windscreen.
Tourism Opportunities
Its a short ride. You will find great amenities near/in San Angelo. There is a gas station in Grape Creek. More or less though they are unneeded if you are local to the area or staying in San Angelo.
Motorcycle Road Additional info
If you are not local to San Angelo we have some great hole in the wall stops. Cork and Pig, Zero One Ale House, Armenta's Cafe are some of my favorites. There is a nice little riverside park downtown. Also a surprising number of little watering holes for the evening time as well.
